Snoop Dogg Launches 2Pac-Inspired Cannabis Line
Hip-hop mogul Snoop Dogg has announced a new cannabis collection inspired by the late rapper 2Pac, to be released under the Death Row Records Cannabis brand.
The limited edition line, set to debut in California dispensaries on July 19, 2024, marks the label's first artist-themed cannabis offering since Snoop acquired Death Row Records in 2022.
The collection features five cannabis strains, including an Alien OG variety and four new phenotypes. In an unusual move, consumers will be able to vote on their preferred strain through a QR code, with the most popular option slated for inclusion in a permanent 2Pac-themed line planned for later this year.
Each purchase will include one of four previously unreleased photographs of 2Pac, taken at Death Row Records, along with branded merchandise. The company states this is part of an effort to blend cannabis products with hip-hop memorabilia.
Snoop Dogg cited his personal connection to 2Pac as motivation for the collection, referencing their shared history at Death Row Records in the 1990s. The launch aligns with Snoop's stated goal of revitalizing the Death Row brand through ventures in both music and cannabis.
Industry observers note this release as another example of the growing intersection between celebrity branding and the cannabis market. Death Row Records Cannabis has indicated plans to expand distribution to Michigan later in the year, though specific dates have not been announced.
The company has directed interested consumers to their website for information on participating retailers. As of now, there's no word on whether similar collections featuring other Death Row artists are in development.
